Online Quran Classes in Birmingham: One-to-One Help for Every Child
Birmingham is not short of places to learn the Quran. In the 2021 Census, 341,811 people in the city described themselves as Muslim. That’s 29.9% of residents, and the largest Muslim population of any local authority in England and Wales.
So why would a Birmingham family choose online lessons?
Often it comes down to one child. They’ve been going to classes for a while, and they’re trying, but their reading isn’t moving forward. In a room full of children, the teacher can only listen to each one for a few minutes. A quiet child can sit through a whole session without being corrected once.
That isn’t anyone’s fault. Group classes do valuable work. But some children need someone to sit with them, listen to every letter, and slow down when they get stuck.
What one-to-one changes
At Quran Specialist Online, every lesson is live and one-to-one with a qualified teacher, on Zoom or MS Teams. For about 30 minutes, the teacher’s attention is on your child and nobody else.
That makes a real difference to:
- Shy children, who won’t put their hand up in a group but will happily read to one patient teacher.
- Children who’ve fallen behind, and need to go back over the Qaida without feeling embarrassed.
- Children who read quickly but carelessly, and need their Tajweed corrected before mistakes set in.
- Children who are ahead, and are ready to move on without waiting for the rest of the class.
You can use our lessons instead of a group class, or alongside one for extra practice at home. You decide what’s right for your child.
Courses for children and adults
- Noorani Qaida: letters, joining and vowel sounds, taught in short, gentle steps from around age 4.
- Quran reading with Tajweed: clear, correct recitation, with mistakes fixed as they happen. Parents of younger readers may like our guide to Tajweed classes for kids in the UK.
- Hifz: memorisation for students who already read fluently, with planned revision so the memorisation lasts.
- Islamic studies basics: the kids’ course covers wudu, Salah, the six kalmas, daily sunnah duas, ten surahs and good Islamic manners.
Adults are very welcome too, whether you’re starting from the letters, brushing up your reading, or new to Islam.
Would your daughter prefer a female teacher?
It’s a very natural thing to want for a daughter. Female Quran teachers are available for girls and younger children. Sisters can also learn with a female teacher themselves. Just mention it when you book.
When lessons happen
Lessons are booked in UK time, with after-school, evening and weekend slots. Our timings are adjusted when the clocks change between GMT and BST (the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October).
Because there’s no travel, a 30-minute lesson takes 30 minutes. Nobody has to wait in the car or catch a bus after a full school day.
You can watch every lesson
You’re welcome to sit in on any lesson. It’s the best way to see how your child is getting on, and to hear for yourself how the teacher corrects them. Our safeguarding page sets out how we keep classes safe.
Signs your child might benefit from one-to-one lessons
Every child learns differently. You might want to try one-to-one teaching if your child:
- Has been on the same part of the Qaida for months.
- Reads very quietly, or mumbles, so mistakes are hard to hear.
- Gets anxious about reading in front of other children.
- Reads fluently but often mixes up similar-sounding letters.
- Comes home tired and unhappy after long sessions.
None of these mean your child can’t learn. They usually mean your child needs a different setting.
Questions worth asking any Quran teacher
Whether you choose us or someone else, it’s worth asking a few questions before you start:
- Can I sit in on lessons? (With us, yes, on every lesson.)
- Is it one-to-one, or will my child share the teacher? (Ours are always one-to-one.)
- Is a female teacher available for my daughter? (Yes.)
- Can we try it before we pay? (Yes, for 7 days, with no card.)
- How will I know my child is improving? Sitting in on lessons is the clearest way to hear it for yourself.
A good teacher will be happy to answer all of these.
What you need
- A laptop, tablet or phone with Zoom or MS Teams (both free).
- A steady internet connection.
- A quiet place to sit for about 30 minutes.
A quiet spot away from younger brothers and sisters helps your child focus on the teacher.

Questions parents ask in Birmingham
My child already goes to a madrasa. Can they do online lessons as well?

The teacher checks their level during the free trial and starts from there. That might mean going back over parts of the Noorani Qaida, or moving straight on to Tajweed.
Can my daughter have a female teacher?
Yes. Female teachers are available for girls and younger children. Just ask when you book the trial.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons are about 30 minutes, live and one-to-one on Zoom or MS Teams.
How much does it cost?
